This Post explains how the cavaliers are in an economic slump. Although it talks mostly about the teams troubles we must understand that this directly affects attendance, and attendance is how these teams are able to make money. The factor that triggered this economic slump for the cavaliers was losing their star play and one of the best players in the league, LeBron James. The fact was that Players this talented are a scarcity, and in order for this team to appeal to a player they must be better than the competition in the areas that matter to that player. Although Cleveland embraced LeBron because he was one of their own, this was not important to him. What was important to him was the talent of his supporting cast and the Cavs did not have the supporting cast that another team would offer.

Everyone agrees that LeBron James is a gifted and unique basketball player. What economic lessons can be learned from this? If a company places all of its hopes on one product, is it at risk of a sudden downturn? Are there some examples of this with other companies? The makers of wagon wheels?
The invisible hand comes into play with LeBron James and him wanting to get more money for himself. So since the Cavs did not have other All-Star players to help win games, LeBron shouldn't have to carry the whole team every game. This also made him want to leave Cleveland, which put the Cavs as one of the worst teams in the NBA, which made their attendance at games very low, which caused an "economic slump".
Where does the economic standpoint come into play? Yeah the basketball team isn’t getting the job done on the court to allow people to come and pay to watch them but what does it have to do with the economic view. LeBron is a gifted player, had fancy dunks, wowed the crowd and he did put people in the seats but this has nothing to do with anything except for the fact of saying that the Cleveland Cavaliers are just not a good basketball team. And plus the link you gave just showed how they are getting killed every game but again, there is nothing trying to help out the economic downfall all over the place.
