Chrysler Super Bowl Ad
Although we did touch on the Chrysler Super bowl ad I4u confirms it as the most expensive. The question we did not cover is why Chrysler chose to spend so much on an ad of that length rather than the usual 30 seconds. I do believe the reason why they chose to do an ad of that length was to transform the commercial to almost a short film. In this super long commercial there were three different points of focus, first being the city of Detroit. If I live in Detroit after seeing this commercial I am definitely more likely to by a Chrysler versus say a Hyundai. The commercial also featured an artist who topped all album sales last year. The fact that Eminem was top in album, which means he has a very wide range of fans, sales confirms that the commercial was not at all solely aimed at the lower class. But to everyone who supports American economy, or has an Eminem song on their iPod.

Its interesting that Brandall points out how the commercial was one of the longest. As he states Chrysler had three topics it was pushing and as a result its commercial ended up feeling more like a short film than a commercial. I think Chrysler got lost with this commercial. Not only did it drag on, I was a little confused as to what they were trying to sell me. I think commercials that are quick and funny had much more of an impact on me than a long one with a message. If Chrysler does another commercial next year they should really shorten it up and choose one topic.
I can fully understand why Chrysler chose to run such a long commercial. It turns out that Chrysler needs to sell some cars. In my eyes, Eminem driving a $20,000 car is unrealistic. He made 40 million last year. Driving a Chrysler is simply bad for his image. But, for the amount of money Chrysler is paying Eminem, I would drive a pink PT Cruiser.
Chrysler spent all this money thinking of their hopeful future expectations. What happens if they spend all this money and there is a very small percentage of buyers? Chrysler kind of went above and beyond for expectations that might not even become fulfilled. They did do a good job of keeping the audiences attention throughout the whole "short film."
I'm going to have to agree with Easton on this one, I was kind of confused as to what they were trying to sell me. At first I thought "Maybe it's a tourism ad for Detroit." Then I thought "Maybe it's a promotion for a new album of Eminem's." I think Chrysler really dropped the ball on this one because I feel like they more than likely wasted money on an ad that was confusing and probably won't help their sales much.
Chrysler is genius by having Eminem sponsor their cars. Tonight Eminem performed at the Grammy's with not only Rhianna but the one and only "Nothin' but a G Thang" Dr. Dre, he was nominated for 10 Grammy's, and just a few Grammy Awards.... no big deal. Eminem is once again one of the hottest stars out there right now. After accepting one of his Grammy's tonight he shouted "Stand up Detroit!". The Chrysler commercial stressed Detroit/American made cars and Eminem is the perfect representative for the product. And it just so happens he is a super star in the media. Great Job Chrysler
Easton: The purpose of a commercial like that is for people to gain more than a quick laugh. That is what made this commercial unique and memorable.
Payne: Eminem rarely does endorsements, if you look at the commercial its pretty clear why he agreed to do this commercial (and i dont think it was money). This also served as a commercial for detroit, which is dealing with extremely hard times currently. I think Eminem saw this as an opportunity to better not only Chrysler (who's factory's employ much of the working class) but how his city is viewed.
Ethan: Although it was a chrystler comercial it was also a commercial for all of those
I think that Eminem doing this commercial was great for not only Chrysler, but for him as well. Eminem doesn't endorse much, but because of this commercial he now has another commercial out that actually makes fun of the fact that he doesn't endorse much. The commercial pointed out that he didn't point out much unless he really liked the product. I think that since that commercial followed the Chrysler commercial says a lot about the Chrysler commercial.
This was a very smart play by Chrysler. By using an incredibly popular artist and basing the car in a city. it appeals to a very large number of people and directly effects them. this commercial was very unique, it was longer than usual and there are several things in it that appeal to the viewers since of humor, this makes the commercial very impactful. some may say its risky to be different, if all other commercial makers have always dome it a certain way there are clear reasons for it but in the long run, their decision to make it longer is very beneficial. this commercial was a great endorsement for not only eminem but for chrysler as well.
