Halloween Horror

How much longer will people waste money going to Haunted Houses during October at theme parks? Probably never since it is becoming so much like Christmas, Valentine's Day, and the Super Bowl in terms of supply. Just like on these days businesses take advantage of the people by stocking up on their goods, by raising their prices and by starting to advertise the day, Halloween, when it's over a month away. This article exemplifies how theme parks are already opening up their Halloween attractions to reel in some extra money and it is still September. Pretty soon they will be open in August similar to how Christmas music starts playing in November and sometimes sooner. The whole year will be one big marketed holiday, so that people can justify raising their prices and increasing their supply, but would this be a bad thing since spending does drive the economy? I really don't know but it is something to think about.

In this article it is $42 just to walk around and be scared for thirty minutes or so, that is just a bit ridiculous. But not to the companies hosting the event because they're getting a nice return in taking advantage of people. Overall businesses are increasing their supply in goods from about September or August till the end of the year and raising their prices, knowing that it is that time of the year when people spend their money most.

Why/how can haunted houses charge such high prices for this thrill? Why do people pay for it?

To some people being scared is like a drug. People do all kinds of crazy and expensive things just to get an adrenaline rush. Paying $42 to get scared for a half hour seems pretty good considering the hundreds you could spend to go base jumping or skydiving, etc. This whole industry is driven by people needing that next adrenaline fix and they are ready and willing to spend their hard earned cash on the experience. Personally I aman adrenaline junky. I do things that are a wast of time and money just to get a thrill. I can't tell you how many times people ask me why I do some things but its all for the thill. People will spend money on some crazy things if they're passionate enough about it.

I totally agree with Cooper and I think the more popular haunted houses get and the better they get, they will start charging more for the thrill. They'll even start shortening the amount of time people are actually in the house for the thrill and amusement. Last year I paid about $50 for about a half hour through a haunted house and it was totally worth it. It's hard for the houses that aren't very scary to not make money because there is always going to be that person that is afraid of everything and tells their friends it's really scary. So they all go and spend more money on that house. The scarier the house, the better advertising I think. The house I went to last year was sponsored by a popular radio station and that is going to bring in a lot of customers. Then the next year the haunted house is going to have more money to make their house a lot scarier, and they can also charge more. I would do anything for an adrenaline rush, even if the ticket was 100 bucks, I would buy it for that rush.

As Matt and Cooper explained the need for an adrenaline rush is a huge factor, and is what these haunted houses are playing off of. And the more money people spend the more that company grows and is able to make their house better and therefore charge higher prices. I don't know if I could pay $50 to walk through a house just seems a little much.
